Going Postal Over Miami Spring FashionA prelude to fashion in Miami is as anticipated as a long line at Starbucks early in the morning, no one is desperate to change wardrobe because of impending weather forecasts. Locals believe that seasons are a myth. South Florida does not experience Winter or Fall, thinking such phenomenons are figments of snowbirds' imaginations. In Miami, there are four seasons: Scorching Summer, Sticky Summer, Soaking Summer, and Spring-like Summer. Somewhere between Scorching Summer and Soaking Summer, South Florida gets a sneak peek at the latest collections from local designers. Tonight's Go Postal fashion extravaganza, brought to us by Designers Collective, will take place at the old postal service office next to the notorious Moore building in Design District. The former federal building has been transformed into Domo Japones, a brand-new chic Japanese restaurant, bringing much-needed variety to the local eateries in the area. The event is sponsored by Domo Japones and Designers Collective, following the creative direction of local fashionista Danny Santiago. Attedees will have the privilege to browse through the latest collections of local independent designers likeTunisian-born Karelle Levy's eclectic KRELwear knits. For those who fancy feminine silhouettes and classic shapes, Fernando Garcia's couture pieces make one swoon. Avant-garde separates from the Cardiac boys will be at hand, adding a little edge to anyone's wardrobe. And no attendee can miss the retro-inspired pieces by Pelusium and beautifully crafted handbags by Colombian designer Nazly Villamizar. Other collaborating designers include Citrine by the Stone, MIA Swimwear, Natalie Eshkenazy, and accessories by Ramona Boucher of Bastion. For a complete South Florida Spring/Summer wardrobe, this event must not be missed. Or you'll risk ending up looking like a recent New England import. (No, it's not OK for anyone in South Florida to wear boots in September. Leave that to the Manhattan seasonal neophytes.) May I suggest hot little wedge heels by Bastion instead..? If fashion isn't your cup of tea (for shame, why are you reading this then?!) perhaps enjoy the complimentary hors d'oeuvres exquisitely prepared by Domo Japones? Then brag to your friends about how fashionable you are because you've tried Domo's cuisine before their official opening to the public. You trendsetter, you. If you are so inclined to shop further (we undoubtedly encourage it), hop over to the Moore Building next door where Schecky's Girls' Night Out is hosting yet another huge shopping event featuring national designers as well as local darlings Rucht D'Oleo and Rochenne Sol among others. With the plethora of shopping nights coming your way (pencil in Gen Art's Shop Miami in June), you'll have no excuse to stock up on Summer's latest and greatest pieces. Any of the summers, that is. Domo Japones is located at 4000 NE 2nd Avenue next to the Moore Building (4040 NE 2nd Ave) in Miami Design District. Event is scheduled for Thursday, April 26th. For both events the doors open at 5pm. Fashion showcase until 11pm. RSVP requested: rsvp@designerscollective.org Posted on Fri, 20 Apr 2007 by Anayma De Frias | Add Comment | Email | Link |
