Stock Market Snapshot

Stocks edged way up by midday on Monday as the Dow was +100 and the Nasdaq +33 .  The rally was helped with news of the cease fire between Lebanon and Israel and news of the BP Alaskan pipeline shut-down.  British Petroleum said that an entire shut-down will not be necessary in as much as 200,000 gallon of crude a day will keep flowing.

For the year-to-date numbers, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, through August 11, 2006 was at +3.5% for the year.  The Nasdaq was down by 6.7% for 2006.

This week the economic calendar will bring the following: Housing, the number of new homes built in July. Earnings, American Eagle outfitters, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hewelett-Packard, Bea Systems, and Dell.

Saving gas money with help from your employer.  The Robert Half Agency had the following results from their survey of employers: 37% are allowing increased telecommuting, 14% provide for subsidies for employees who use public transportation, 47% will increase the amount reimbursed for auto use for company business, 25% do none of the above.
